Capcom’s weirdest game in a while is coming to Game Pass this week

While there are no big titles, July has already been a fantastic month for eclectic smaller games on Game Pass, with the past few weeks seeing the release of gems like The Case of the Golden Idol, Tchia, Neon whiteAnd Flock.

The trend continues into the second half of the month with a trio of day one releases, all of which are due out this week: soulslike Flintlock: The Siege of DawnAlpine adventure Dungeons of Hinterbergand the truly unique Capcom action-strategy game, Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess.

And… that’s it. The odd thing about Microsoft’s latest “coming to Game Pass update”, which would normally span the entire second half of July, is that it stops there. Just a very light month? Maybe not; “let’s stay in touch, we’ll have another update for you soon”, said Xbox WirePerhaps there will be a surprise Game Pass release between now and the end of the month.

Either way, the choice from this week’s tempting line-up is likely to be Kunitsu Gami. I’ve played it (look out for the description coming soon) and it’s a mesmerizing, wholly unique game that harks back to one of Capcom’s most creative eras in the mid-2000s, when a crack team led by Shinji Mikami created a series of unusual, visually diverse cult classics, including Curious Joe, Murderer 7And Okami. Kunitsu Gami revolves around battling bizarre demons in a setting inspired by medieval Japanese mythology; your warrior recruits villagers to protect the Maiden as she performs a purifying dance to close the demon gates. There is nothing quite like it.

Elsewhere, Dungeons of Hinterberg (which I also played a bit) is a charming adventure set in the Austrian Alps, where the rise of magical dungeons has become a tourist attraction for sporty outdoorsmen to test themselves. And Flintlock: The Siege of Dawnoriginating from the A44 Games in New Zealand (Ash gray), is a “Souls-lite” about killing gods in rhythmic combat.

Here’s everything coming to Game Pass in the coming weeks – or is it?
