‘Cannibal’ Mexican husband ‘killed his wife, ate her brains in tacos and used her skull as ashtray’

A “devil worshipper,” dubbed the “Cannibal of Puebla,” who allegedly killed his wife, ate her brain in tacos and used her skull as an ashtray, has been arrested in Mexico.

The suspect, identified only as Alvaro, was seized and taken into custody at the couple’s home in Puebla on July 2.

Police charge the 32-year-old with the murder of his wife – a mother of five – on June 29 while under the influence of a banned substance.

During interrogation, he allegedly told the officers that Santa Muerte (Our Lady of the Holy Death) and the devil ordered him to commit the crime.

After the murder, Alvaro is said to have chopped up the body of victim Maria Montserrat Animas Montiel and placed her remains in plastic bags.

He allegedly threw some of them into a ravine behind the house and kept the rest inside the property.

According to sources close to the case, he confessed to eating part of his wife’s brain in tacos and using part of her crushed skull as an ashtray.

Two days after the murder, he reportedly called one of his stepdaughters to confess to his crime.

The victim’s mother, Maria Alicia Montiel Serran, told local media: “He told one of her daughters to come and pick up her mother because ‘I already killed her and put her in bags.'”

Grieving Maria Alicia added that Alvaro dismembered the 38-year-old victim’s body “with a machete, a chisel and a hammer.” She continued, “I called him up crying and asked why he did that to her if she wasn’t a bad person.”

According to Maria Alicia, the suspect confessed: “I killed her, I cut her up and I threw her into the ravine in sacks.”

She added that he claimed, “She didn’t suffer.”

Maria Montserrat married Alvaro less than a year ago. She had five daughters aged 12 to 23. The youngest two lived with the couple and, according to their grandmother, were subjected to violence and sexual harassment by Alvaro.

Maria Alicia said, “He spied on them showering, and my daughter, well, you know she always sided with him out of love.”

The victim’s family says that Alvaro – a builder – is addicted to drink and drugs and was often violent towards his wife.

The family says the couple often posted about their Santa Muerte worship on social media. Police reportedly found a black magic shrine in their home.

Maria Alicia said, “Drugs, he used them, and he snorted cocaine and stuff. I think he had some mental issues because to do something like that…

“He loved the one downstairs, well, I know because she had Santa Muerte tattooed on one of her colorful legs.”

According to sources close to the case, Alvaro (left) confessed to eating part of his wife’s brain in tacos and using part of her shattered skull as an ashtray.

The family of the victim has not yet been able to bury Maria Montserrat, because the police are still looking for part of her remains, which also require DNA testing.

Her mother demanded, “Give her to me so that I can bury her and give her a dignified farewell.”

“That is what I want, and don’t let him go free, for I believe no mother would want her daughter sent to her in pieces. I demand justice.’

The Puebla Public Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the case.
