Canelo Alvarez got into a heated argument with Oscar De La Hoya ahead of his title fight against undefeated Jaime Munguia during a press conference in Las Vegas on Wednesday.
De La Hoya took aim at Alvarez, a former Golden Boy talent, and took credit for building his career, saying, “Give it some respect.”
The promoter then accused the middleweight of failing two drug tests, with the allegation causing Alvarez to rise from his chair to confront De La Hoya.
Alvarez and De La Hoya had to be separated by security as each hurled expletives at the other.
De La Hoya last had an official boxing match in 2008 and is clearly in Munguia’s corner ahead of Saturday’s bout.

Munguia enters the fight against Alvarez at 43-0, while Alvarez hasn’t lost at middleweight since his 2013 majority decision loss to Floyd Mayweather.
Alvarez has never lost a fight by knockout in any weight class. Golden Boy released Alvarez from his contract in November 2020.
The relationship between De La Hoya and Alvarez seems irreparably damaged by the break.
The now 51-year-old De La Hoya quickly sat down after Alvarez got in his face, before calling him slimy after pulling out his chair.
Alvarez will defend his four supper middleweight titles against Munguia in the fight. Alvarez has won multiple world titles since a September 2018 victory over Gennady Golovkin.
Alvarez enters the fight with an all-time record of 60-2-2.
