Munguia came out aggressive in the first three rounds and even put Alvarez on the ropes in the third. Alvarez showed he wasn’t going anywhere in the fourth, though, with a left and then a right to the face that sent Munguia to the canvas with 38 seconds left.

Alvarez then proceeded to stab Munguia over the next four rounds with shots to the face. Munguia put together his own flurries, but they did little noticeable damage to Alvarez.

That is until the ninth round, when Munguia landed several punches to the face that sent Alvarez back, even into the corner at one point. But Alvarez responded with combinations of his own, including coming out of the corner, in the most action-packed round of the fight.

Munguia came out fighting in the final round as if he knew he was behind on the judges’ card, but did little damage. It was Alvarez who again came through with the best punches, using a combination with about a minute left on Munguia’s head and then several more shots to end the fight.

Alvarez now has a record of 61-2 and has won his last four matches. On the other hand, the much younger Munguia has a record of 43-1 after suffering his first loss.
