Canadian woman kicked off flight from Mexico after going to the bathroom too many times due to ‘upset stomach’ as she claims supervisor ‘refused to even pay for a taxi’
A woman made her dismay public on social media after she said she was kicked off a flight from Mexico to her home in Canada because she went to the bathroom too many times before leaving.
Joanna Chiu, a journalist and author, went to X on Friday to complain about her ordeal when she was supposed to fly to Vancouver via Canadian airline WestJet.
“I just got kicked off a @WestJet flight from Mexico because I had an upset stomach and went to the washroom too many times before taking off,” she wrote.
Not only that, she said she initially “received no promise of a hotel or a rebooked flight.”
She explained that her bathroom trips were caused by an illness, but added that she was “on medication and on the mend” and wondered if she could just get “some customer service.”

Chiu ended her thread with a sarcastic recommendation: “If you’re sick before a flight, wait a minute.”
Her problems continued after Chiu said she was rushed off the plane after realizing she had left her money on board with the people she was traveling with.
A WestJet supervisor refused to give her money for a taxi. She posted a photo of the supervisor looking irritated and said she “burst into tears” after they became aggressive and called him a “jerk.”
Chiu claimed she was recording their interaction.
“This @WestJet supervisor said unless I deleted the video I wouldn’t be able to get on a flight tomorrow.”
She then added a “nicer” employee who spoke to her later but “refused to give (her) a booking reference for my rebooked flight.”
“She told me to just come back to the airport tomorrow and ask at the counter,” Chiu added, saying she was “legitimately concerned about being arrested.”
Finally, she claimed that WestJet sent her a direct message with her booking reference number.

Chiu announced Sunday that she was finally home in Vancouver and warned flyers to “check if your destination is known for stomach upset.”
“If you go to the washroom before a flight and the flight attendant asks if you’re sick, tell them you just have a small bladder,” she continued.
Reaction to Chiu’s tirade was mixed, with some warning her that by flying while sick she was endangering people.
“The passenger was ill and therefore should not have flown,” said one social media user.
‘It appears that this issue may have resulted in the passenger having to use the toilet for the entire return flight, or at times when they had to be ‘in the seat’ for safety reasons. Good call, poor communication.’
Others were more encouraging, saying they were sorry this had happened to her.
In a statement to DailyMail.com, a WestJet spokesperson regretted what happened to Chiu.
“We sincerely apologize to Ms. Chiu for the inconvenience and inconvenience she experienced during her recent travel experience, including the communication delay that occurred while she waited for a suitable rehousing option,” Madison Kruger said.
Kruger added that the airline “takes all health concerns very seriously” and said that “in circumstances where a guest is deemed unfit to travel due to illness, our crew is trained to make difficult, but necessary decisions in the name of safety.” ‘
She said that after her X-thread, they immediately contacted Chiu to offer her further rehousing.
