Expat roasts Australian winter fashion – from wealthy Sydney mums in puffer jackets to Victorians wearing shorts

A Canadian woman living in Australia has focused on how people in Down Under dress in winter.
Ioana, who has lived in Australia for seven years and hops between New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland, dressed in the cold months as she thinks Aussies from all over the country wear.
She mocked ‘wealthy Sydney mothers’, people from Perth and Brisbane who dress up when the temperature drops below 24°C and people from Canberra and Victoria who wear shorts despite the icy conditions.
Ioana, who now lives on the Gold Coast, mocked Tasmanians who don’t wear coats in winter and Queenslanders who still wear shorts and thongs despite complaining about cold weather.
Australians loved Ioana’s impressions, deeming them ‘accurate’ and fell short of her shots.

In a TikTok clampthe Canadian dressed as a “rich Sydney mom” who she says is wearing an athleisure-branded puffer jacket is “unnecessarily aggressive” and “ready for brunch.”
She then showed the ‘Perth/Brisbane special’ and packed for temperatures below 24 degrees.
For the ‘Melbourne commuter’ Ioana dressed in skinny pants, lace-up boots, a scarf, a long cardigan and over-ear headphones.
“Is this outfit black enough?” she wrote.
The ‘nah I’m fine mate’ person from Canberra or Victoria ‘stubbornly’ wears shorts, flip flops and a light sweater in the winter.
The “I don’t need a jacket, I’m from Tasmania” person, Ioana thought, wore a “fisherman’s sweater” and the occasional Kathmandu jacket.
Finally, Ioana donned the ‘official Queensland uniform’ with a puffer jacket, shorts and thongs.
She joked that people in the outfit usually complain that it’s “not hot, is it?”
Ioana’s clip has been viewed more than 563,700 times and impressed Australians with her on-point impersonations.

“Yes, it recently dropped to 24 degrees in Perth and I was ready to turn on the heating,” said one viewer.
‘Love it. My teenagers here in Melbourne have just done the winter upgrade from one hoodie to two hoodies (each),’ added a mum.
‘A puffer fish is indispensable in Tassie. Sometimes with shorts. It’s a Tassie tuxedo,” another wrote.
South Australians and people from the Northern Territory complained about not being included, but Ioana admitted she never went.
“I wanted to do a full bikini for NT, but no one needs to see that!” she joked.
They were quick to inform the expat what winter dressing looked like where they lived.
“I’ve seen thongs, shorts and singlets ONLY WITH A SCARF in Darwin on a rare day under 24,” one woman laughed.
“Morning/evening flannel over shirt. tied around the waist during the day. jeans or shorts and flip flops,” another added.
One Adelaide resident said, ’10 years ago everyone discovered puffer jackets and now they’ve taken over the city’.
