Aussies were left scratching their heads after a snake catcher asked people if they could spot the venomous reptile hiding in the bushland.
The photo was uploaded on Thursday by the Hodgsons Snake Catchers Facebook after she saw him in Beaufort, 40 kilometers from Ballarat, Victoria.
In a weedy patch of gravel, the snake appears to be disguising itself as part of the ground.
Snake catchers in Victoria asked if followers could spot the snake in dry grassland in rural Victoria
The reptile disguised in the weeds and gravel was a tiger snake, the snake catchers confirmed
Followers were asked if they could spot the reptile. The rescuers suggested that they “take a screenshot of the photo and then draw a line where you think the snake is in the photo.”
“Remember, this is gravel with weeds, barely any cover.”
Some had no idea and said they couldn’t see the snake.
“No, this one got me,” one user wrote.
“I have no idea where it is,” wrote another.
‘It bothers me too! I can’t see it at all.’
Others who appeared to see the snake tried to guess its species.
“Hidden good eastern brown, I think,” one person wrote.
“I suspect it’s a tiger snake,” said another.
Some saw the funnier side, while others said the game made them cautious the next time they went outside.
“Don’t play this stupid, stupid game anymore!!!!” wrote one user.
“Another day of getting bitten and dying,” said another.
“These games give me so much anxiety.”
One of the moderators of the post wrote in the comments section that it was more about getting people to notice what’s going on around them.
“It (the game) is not about easy or hard (to find the snake), it’s about awareness of your surroundings,” they wrote.
Although most found it difficult to recognize the snake and identify the species, Gianni from Hodgsons told Ny Breaking Australia the reptile was a tiger snake.
“This (snake) was in a workshop,” Gianni said.
“There was a business premises that people were walking past and that (snake) was in the garden bed.”
“We took him to a local creek, away from people’s workplaces and homes.”
Most users who played the game said they couldn’t recognize the snake, while others couldn’t recognize the species
Gianni said the aim of the game was to help people become more aware of their surroundings, especially in unfamiliar areas.
“That’s the point of the game…is to show people how well they (snakes) can adapt and not be noticed,” Gianni said.
Video footage was later shown showing the moment the snake was on the ground.
The person who filmed the snake zooms in with the camera, showing the animal appearing to lie motionless on the surface.
Moments later, the snake shakes the upper part of its body as the person filming takes a step back before quickly slithering away.
