From a complete overhaul of the verification system to the reinstatement of controversial accounts including Donald Trump and Andrew Tate, Elon Musk has made some questionable changes since buying out Twitter last year.
But his latest change may be his biggest yet.
The entrepreneur has officially ditched the bird logo and rebranded Twitter as X.

Users have criticized the decision and many have taken to the platform to voice their confusion. One user said, “Can someone tell this guy to leave Twitter alone?” while another joked, “Twitter is turning into X and I can’t help but ask Y”
News of the rebrand was confirmed by Twitter executive Linda Yaccarino, who tweeted a photo of the company’s new logo, writing, “X is here!” Let’s do this.’
Musk also changed his own profile picture to the new logo and changed his bio to “X.com,” which now redirects to twitter.com.
In addition, Twitter’s own account has changed its name to X, along with the new logo as a profile picture.
After the change, many confused users went to the platform.
‘Wtf is X???? Can someone tell this man to leave twitter alone?’ a user wrote.
“Wait… Twitter is actually changing to ‘X’???? I don’t understand how that makes sense. for what????’ another wrote.
One added, “Elon must be having another midlife crisis. Does he think this makes him cool and edgy??? Does he think this will make smart people pay for things that are FREE? Goodbye Twitter, Elon Musk was the worst thing that could happen to this useful and sometimes fun platform.”
And another joked: ‘Goodbye twitter then I guess. Is it just me or does the new name & logo ‘X’ look/sound like a gay sex club or porn studio or something?’
#GoodbyeTwitter and #RIPTwitter are both trending on the platform right now.
Many confused users have taken to the platform following the change, including one who joked, “Goodbye twitter then I guess. Is it just me or does the new name & logo ‘X’ look/sound like a gay sex club or porn studio or something?’
Musk’s affinity for the letter X in both his professional and personal life has been growing for 25 years, though he’s rarely given a reason.
One of Musk’s first ventures was known as X.com, first launched as an online banking and financial services platform in 1999.
A year later, he had to resign as CEO of the company.
“Everyone tried to get him to call the company that because of the sexual innuendo, but he really liked it and stuck with it,” said Ashlee Vance, the author of Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX, and the Quest for a Fantastic Future, about the X.com domain, according to NPR.
Three years later, he made $165 million when the site, then merged with PayPal, was bought by eBay.
Musk would later buy back the X.com domain from PayPal in 2017. That site now redirects people to Twitter.
Thank you PayPal for letting me buy back X.com! No plans at this time, but it has great sentimental value to me,” Musk wrote on Twitter in 2017.
That domain was Musk’s first major use of the letter X, but not his last.
Musk is also the founder and CEO of SpaceX, which is formally known as Space Exploration Technologies Corporation.
