AFL identity Campbell Brown has revealed the unique way Chris Judd paid him back after he lied in AFL court to get the decorated midfielder off a charge for gouging out his eyes.
It was 2007 and West Coast Eagles star Judd was a heavy favorite to win the Brownlow Medal for the league’s best and fairest player.
The problem was that Judd was likely out of contention after an accusation of gouging out Hawks defenseman Brown’s eye during a game that season.
Brown appeared before the AFL court to help plead Judd’s case, and despite clear evidence to the contrary, stated that contact with his face was minimal.
Incredibly, Judd beat the charge, but when Brown blurted out in an interview with journalist Mike Sheahan a couple of weeks later that he wasn’t entirely truthful in court, all hell broke loose.
Former Hawks defender Campbell Brown has revealed how Chris Judd paid him back after he was fined $15,000 for lying to the AFL tribunal to get the star off an eye gouge charge.
Brown took on the AFL tribunal to help Judd’s case, cheekily declaring that the former West Coast midfielder’s (pictured) contact with his face was minimal
When Brown later blurted out in an interview with journalist Mike Sheahan that he was not entirely candid in court, the AFL fined him $15,000; he then sent a bill to Judd

Brown was fined $15,000 for lying, of which $7,500 was suspended, and was sidelined by the furious AFL for two weeks.
Judd then received a five-figure bill from Brown, who opted to see the funny side of the matter.
While the champion midfielder didn’t shell out any money, Brown wasn’t left in the lurch.
‘he gave me a [very good] advice on stocks a few years ago,” Brown said on the American Aces podcast.
‘Chris has paid his way a lot.’
For the record, Geelong grand winner and three-time Premier Jimmy Bartel took home the Brownlow Medal in 2007.
After winning a flag with the Hawks in 2008, Brown then moved to the Gold Coast Suns, but his career was cut short after he was fired by the club.
It followed a fight in Los Angeles with teammate Steven May, who ended up with a broken jaw from the fight during a late-season trip.
