Campaign fast food fight! Biden picks up sandwiches for construction workers days after Trump bought Chick-fil-A for whole restaurant

President Joe Biden tried to rip a page from his predecessor and 2024 opponent Donald Trump’s playbook on Wednesday by ordering fast food for construction workers.

Trump made a surprise visit to a Chick-fil-A in Atlanta on April 10, where he told a dozen employees behind the counter: “We’re going to take care of the customers.”

He ordered 30 milkshakes and chicken for the enthusiastic people in the store, but also for his staff.

Biden tried to make a similar moment as he entered a Sheetz in Moon Township, Pennsylvania, near Pittsburgh, on Wednesday.

Sheetz is a chain of convenience stores and coffee shops that sells fast food and sandwiches in several states, although it is famous in western Pennsylvania.

Perhaps that’s why Democrat Sen. John Fetterman β€” a notorious booster of Sheetz over his Philadelphia-based rival Wawa β€” excitedly posted on X Wednesday, “Joe Biden just won another term.”

The establishment crowd, however, seemed slightly less enthusiastic for the president than both Fetterman and the excited crowd that greeted Trump at Chick-fil-A.

The audience and employees politely smiled at Biden, wearing his famous aviator sunglasses, as Biden went behind the counter to take photos with a cashier.

However, it was more formal than Trump, who worked the room and spoke to supporters, shook hands, signed autographs and even hugged a woman.

Biden ordered sandwiches, fruit and other prepared items along with Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey and Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato.

β€œEveryone loves a good Sheetz Run, even the President of the United States,” a Sheetz spokesperson said in a statement.

The president dropped off the sandwiches at the construction site for Pittsburgh International Airport’s new terminal, where he shook hands and handed out food.

During his visit last Wednesday, Trump made sure there were enough milkshakes for everyone at the Atlanta Chick-fil-A, even telling an employee that if they “ran out” when they were handed out to customers, he would pay for more.

He was in Georgia as part of his campaign trail, answering questions for reporters at the Chick-fil-A restaurant.

‘Is this good then? To earn a lot of money? Get rich, right? Excellent,” he said, joking with the workers.

One woman appeared overjoyed as she hugged Trump and shouted to the crowd, “Tell my mom I made it,” earning a laugh from Trump.

He then hugged another supporter after signing his hat and shaking his hand while praising the man’s show and taking a photo with him.

Both Biden and Georgia are targeting voters in swing states like Georgia and Pennsylvania β€” where Biden flipped from red to blue in 2020 β€” ahead of the November election.

Biden suggested to cheering steelworkers on Wednesday that his administration would thwart a Japanese company’s takeover of US Steel and called for a tripling of tariffs on Chinese steel in an effort to use trade policy to win working-class votes.

During a visit to the United Steelworkers headquarters in Pittsburgh, Biden said US Steel “has been an iconic American company for more than a century and it must remain completely American.”

Biden is in the midst of a three-day swing in Pennsylvania, which began Tuesday in his hometown of Scranton and will visit Philadelphia on Thursday.
