Television presenter Cameron Williams grabbed his wife’s arm during a drunken brawl at the couple’s rural retreat last weekend, police allege in court.

Williams and wife Natasha Russo spent Saturday with two old friends on a worker bee on the couple’s property in the New South Wales Hunter Valley.

The group began drinking after knocking down tools and reportedly there was an argument late Saturday night between Williams and Mrs. Russo that their friends did not witness, but heard from another room.

One of the friends called Triple Zero and police visited the property in Howes Valley, about 30 miles southwest of Singleton, just after 1 a.m. on Sunday.

The former Channel Nine star, who allegedly grabbed Mrs Russo’s arm, was charged with common assault and given a preliminary assault warrant.

Daily Mail Australia understands there is no history of violence between the couple.

NSW Police issued a statement on Sunday afternoon saying officers had been called to the property following reports of a domestic incident.

“Following an investigation, a 59-year-old man was arrested and taken to Cessnock Police Station and charged with assault,” the statement read.

“The Coogee man was granted conditional bail to appear before Singleton Local Court on Thursday, November 24, 2022.”

As part of the AVO, Williams must not approach or be in the company of Ms. Russo for at least 12 hours after drinking alcohol or using illegal drugs.

Williams’ attorney, Paul McGirr, said his client was a loving family man who was “deeply ashamed of all this.”

“At this stage there’s a lot more going on, we’ll enter a plea of ​​not guilty, get a review of evidence and go from there,” Mr McGirr said.

Potential buyers of the ‘seaside retreat’ have learned that the owners are planning to move to Queensland.

Williams, a father of two who has presented sports for Today and Nine News, is originally from Emerald in the Central Highlands west of Rockhampton.

The alleged altercation in Howes Valley came months after the high-profile newsreader resigned from his position at Channel Nine, citing “health reasons”.

“It is with a heavy heart that I have decided to resign from Nine,” Williams wrote to colleagues in March.

“Leaving the best team in News is hard and being a part of that team is an honor.

“But I’ve struggled for years with deteriorating health and I now want to address that for the sake of a more important team, my family.”
