Cameron Diaz Wants to 'Normalize' Married Couples Sleeping in Separate Bedrooms… and Reveals Whether It's Her and Benji Madden's Lifestyle

Cameron Diaz believes a couple's choice to sleep in separate rooms should be “normalized” but admits she and husband Benji Madden don't do this.

The actress, 51, shared the 'controversial' take on model Molly Sims' recent episode podcast as they chatted about what they consider a healthy lifestyle.

“We need to normalize separate bedrooms,” Diaz said before sharing her reasoning with Sims and co-host Emese Gormley.

“For me, I would literally say, I have my house, you have yours,” she admitted. 'We have the family house in the middle. I'm going to sleep in my room. Just go to sleep in your room. I'm fine.'

“And in the middle we have the bedroom where we can gather for our relationships,” the mother of one concluded.

Sims said her audience might be surprised by Diaz's ideal living situation.

But Diaz later clarified that this does not apply to her marriage to Madden, 44.

“Besides, I don't feel that way anymore because my husband is so great. I said that before I got married,” she told Sims.

Madden, the lead guitarist and backing singer for the band Good Charlotte, married Diaz in 2015 – just ten months after she was introduced by Nicole Richie.

Richie is married to Benji's twin brother Joel Madden.

Appearing on Anna Faris' podcast in 2021, the star recalled the encounter and how she found Benji “so hot.”

And the attraction only grew when she met him.

“When I saw… who he was, I really thought, 'Oh you, you're special, you're the man, you're the hidden gem in my life,'” she told her actress friend.

She previously said that marrying the rocker was “the best thing that ever happened to her.”

Diaz and Madden welcomed their first child, daughter Raddix, now three, in 2020.

During a conversation with Gucci Westman that same year, the Shrek star said she “(loves) being a mom” and that it has become “the best, best, best part of my life.”

She continued, “I'm so grateful and so happy and it's the best thing that ever happened and I'm so lucky that I get to do this with Benj and we have the best time. I'm excited. I can not believe it.'

Diaz retired from acting in 2018 to focus on his family.

She shocked fans this year when she returned to the spotlight to film the Netflix film Back In Action with co-star Jamie Foxx – only to retire once filming wrapped.

Diaz and her family were spotted together on a rare outing in November this year.

They were photographed running errands in Montecito, where they live in a beautiful $12.67 million mansion.
