NRL stars playing in the annual Koori Knockout could be written into the history books following a serious ankle injury to Dragons full-back Tyrell Sloan.

Sloan, 21, had surgery on Friday for syndesmosis and will miss the start of Red V’s pre-season.

The young player faces a recovery time of up to 10 weeks and new coach Shane Flanagan is believed to be in turmoil over the development.

Sloan hopes to feature again by December – and given the injury was sustained during a tournament featuring park football players, the joint venture club – who finished 16th this season – have every reason to feel frustrated.

It also comes after Bulldogs winger Josh Addo-Carr was sanctioned by the NRL on Friday for his role in an on-field brawl at the same tournament on the NSW Central Coast while representing the Sydney All Blacks.

The outfielder will now miss Tests against Samoa and New Zealand, with Penrith’s Dylan Edwards brought into Mal Meninga’s squad in a direct swap.

NRL superstar Latrell Mitchell also raced at Tuggerah, raising eyebrows after the Rabbitohs said he suffered a tendon injury and could not represent the Kangaroos at the upcoming Pacific Championships.

Meanwhile, former Rabbitohs winger and try ace Nathan Merritt is currently in a critical condition in a Sydney hospital after being found unconscious on Friday.

The 40-year-old man was taken to the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Camperdown and is believed to be on life support.

It is understood Merritt had a serious reaction to prescribed painkillers.

Merritt retired in 2014 after 237 NRL games and is widely regarded as one of the greatest players in South Sydney’s esteemed history.

He represented NSW in the 2013 Origin seriesmade two appearances in the The Australian Prime Minister’s XIII featured twice for City Origin and won three NRL Indigenous All Stars jerseys.

The local Bunnies junior was also a regular face at the Koori Knockout – including last weekend.

He won the annual tournament three times alongside his father Tony.
