Stephen A. Smith has proven himself to be a font of knowledge on all things Pixar, as well as sports.
The First Take star was on a live phone call Tuesday night when a caller tried to trick him by asking where he stood in Lightning McQueen’s position in the GOAT rankings.
McQueen is the main character in the Pixar franchise ‘Cars’ and is an extremely popular character among fans of the films.
McQueen, voiced by Hollywood star Owen Wilson, races in the fictional Piston Cup racing series and managed to win seven championships during his career.
But he holds that record with Comic ‘The King’ Weathers, a blue car from the 1970s voiced by Richard Petty.
Stephen A. Smith was very knowledgeable about ‘Cars’ when a caller tried to ask him a trick question
Smith introduced Wisconsin’s Danny as his next caller and the viewer then asked for the host’s thoughts on the sport’s GOAT debate, throwing in McQueen as a curveball.
But Smith wasn’t fooled and responded with a typically fiery response.
Danny asked, “When you think of the GOAT of the sport, you think of Mike (Jordan) with six (NBA championships), (Tom) Brady with seven (Super Bowl) rings, but where do you rank a guy like Lightning McQueen with seven piston cups?’
Smith thought about his answer before replying, “I would tell you he wouldn’t be the GOAT.
‘How are you going to be the GOAT? Because you’re talking about the movie Cars, right?
“I mean, if you’re talking about Strip ‘The King’ Weathers and Lightning McQueen, they both have seven Piston Cups.
“Strip Weathers…did you forget him? How can you be the GOAT when someone is tied to you?
‘Sorry. That’s not going to work. I know you tried to catch me with that. You didn’t think I knew that, did you? You slept on a brother.”
Lightning McQueen won seven Piston Cup titles in the hit Pixar film franchise ‘Cars’
As Danny tried to plead his case for McQueen again, Smith intervened.
He continued, “Strip Weathers has seven Piston Cups. I don’t intend to get into an argument here with a grown man about the movie Cars. Strip Weathers has seven Piston Cups.
“You should have brought someone who didn’t have that many Piston Cups.”
Smith then asked him which Fast and Furious movie he prefers, before saying, “My point is, if you’re going to argue with me about something, what if it’s not an animated movie like ‘Cars’?”
‘How about if it’s something like Fast and Furious. I would have appreciated that.’
That didn’t go down well with Danny, who replied, “Stephen, Cars is as real for little kids as it is…”
Smith immediately shouted back, “You’re not a little kid! You’re 21! You’d be right if you were seven and called me. You are 21 years old. What are you doing, wearing a diver? Goodbye man.’
Cars – and its Planes spin-off films – earns more than $1.7 billion at the Box Office and is one of the highest-grossing animated franchises of all time.
