Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is getting ranked multiplayer in season one
Sledgehammer Games has announced this Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 will have ranked multiplayer in season one.
Announced during the CoD: Next At today’s event (October 5), where Activision showcased the game’s 20 launch maps, it was revealed that players can expect a modernized and improved ranked multiplayer mode halfway through the first season.
“Our friends at Treyarch are back at ranked play,” said Greg Reisdorf, multiplayer creative director at Sledgehammer Games.
“They’re doing a fantastic job with it, and we’re excited to work with them. They are going to bring that experience, update it and modernize it. Modern Warfare 2bring that forward, and then for season 1.5 (…) halfway through the first season, that’s when it launches.”
Reisdorf explained that this time frame is because it wants returning players and newcomers to become familiar with the game and the new modes, before adding that Treyarch will reveal more about the ranked mode in the future.
During the broadcast, the developer also showed off the game’s 20 playable launch maps, 16 of which are from the original 2009 title, while the other four consist of three large-scale battle maps and one colossal ‘war’ map.
As for what’s to come, the developer reiterated that it will be adding maps in future seasons, starting with three in season one and three in season two. It was explained that over the course of the game’s live season, players will eventually receive a total of twelve 6v6 maps, all with different locations.
In addition to confirming that Call of Duty: World War II‘s narrative ‘War Mode’ is coming Modern Warfare 3 Day one also revealed that card voting will also return, as well as the series’ classic red dot mini-map, and talk of the game’s new perks system.
Duty: Modern Warfare 3 launches on November 10 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Xbox One. If you pre-ordered the game, you can check out the game’s open beta, but launch dates depend on the platform you’re playing on.
