A California school board member who claimed to be the ‘Messiah’ has been arrested for a mental health investigation after making serious threats.

Tuolumne County School Board Trustee Jason Vassar has made a series of chilling threats, according to court documents seen by The Union Democrat.

The 50-year-old reportedly said he had killed children, but also that he was God’s executioner, and made racist and anti-government comments. Although he did not threaten any specific person.

The court filings include “manifestos” allegedly written by Vassar and titled “Homework.” He allegedly presented them to Belleview Elementary School Superintendent Carmel Portillo minutes after leaving a meeting on Oct. 30.

It prompted school officials to issue a restraining order against him and initiate a lawsuit to remove him from his role.

Portillo convened a meeting with Vassar on Oct. 30 to “discuss school board matters and inquire about his mental health.”

But he is said to have declared that he was “God’s chosen messiah” to bring about the end of the world.

Court documents say Vassar later sent emails containing 93 pages of comments to the director and another administrator on topics including the coronavirus pandemic, the Antichrist and made other Biblical references.

“I was quite shocked when I read in Revelations that I would be God’s executioner and kill your children,” he reportedly wrote.

“I’m going to tear this planet apart, starting with my hometown of Sonora.

“I’m going to kill these communists or socialists or whatever these cultists think they are. You’re sitting on my boot that I’m washing again.

“If anyone threatens my children, I will kill them in the most heinous way I can think of, including corrupt government agencies that illegally harassed me because they think no one could ever set up the FBI with a stinger. .’

The school then filed for a temporary restraining order, stating that Vassar’s writings showed paranoia that could “easily lead him to believe” that efforts to limit his attendance at the school are a “covert plot against him.”

He must remain at least 1,000 feet away from campus, students and staff, as well as the County Superintendent of Schools Office facilities, staff and students.

Vassar must also surrender his firearms to the police. He is said to have left a voicemail with an employee at 11.30pm on November 4 in response to the restraining order in which he said: ‘f*** you… I hope you win the lottery and die the next day.’

On November 6, a letter was sent to staff and parents about the situation surrounding Vassar.

He was held in a psychiatric facility for 72 hours under Code Section 5150 of the California Welfare and Institutions Code, according to the complaint.

An updated Nov. 13 letter to staff and families said the Sheriff’s Office confirmed Vassar was still being held and under supervision.

It was also mentioned that a court hearing will take place on November 28 on the possibility of a permanent ban.

Superintendent Portillo confirmed that the district has initiated the process to have Vassar removed from the school board through the attorney general’s office.
