Enough to make you scream! Frightened California locals call the police on a creepy figure dressed as Ghostface from slasher movies hanging out at crosswalks, only to discover it was a stunt for the latest installment in the series.

  • Ghostface was near Sonoma Plaza at First Street East and East Napa St.
  • Sonoma police were alerted to the suspect Monday.
  • The police found out when they went to investigate that it was a Paramount publicity stunt.

California locals called the police after spotting a creepy figure dressed as the killer from Scream Ghostface standing ominously at crosswalks in a sleepy town.

The masked figure was seen at the edge of a crosswalk in Sonoma on Monday.

They then walked across the street, before attacking the camera wearing the demon mask first seen in 1996, when the original Scream movie was released.

Unlike the fictional Ghostface from the movies, this one did not wield a sword and did not slash anyone to death.

On Monday, Sonoma police were inundated with calls from frightened residents reporting a suspicious person, wearing a black hoodie and white mask, standing in the historic town square near First Street East and East Napa. Street in Sonoma Plaza.

When the officers went to investigate, they learned that the person under the costume had nothing to fear, but was there to promote the upcoming horror movie.

In recent weeks, Ghostface has been seen in various cities across the country, including New Orleans, St. Louis, and Sonoma, the film’s stand-in. fictional town of Woodsboro.

Ghostface, who appears to be enjoying all the hoopla, has taken to Twitter telling those in a panic: “I was just minding my own business.”

The cult film revolves around a brutal murder streak in the sleepy town of Woodsboro and a Ghostface killer who targets a group of teenage victims.

The Wes Craven-directed slasher franchise began in 1996 and starred Neve Campbell, David Arquette, Courteney Cox, Matthew Lillard, and Drew Barrymore.

Campbell quit after Scream 5. Arquette’s and Barrymore’s characters were killed off by Ghostface himself, and Lillard’s character died after being unmasked as Ghostface in the first film.

Cox is still one of the few original characters standing and will appear in Scream 6, in which the latest incarnation of Ghostface terrorizes New York City.

The first movie in the franchise was filmed at the Sonoma Community Center, just a block from Sonoma Plaza.

The community center served as the high school in the film, and the original film was shot throughout the Bay Area in 1996.

Santa Rosa, Tomales, and Healdsburg were other areas of California featured in the film.
