California firefighters rescue dehydrated coyote pup without a mom
SAN FRANCISCO — Firefighters in California rescued a dehydrated coyote cub that appeared to be separated from its mother, state fire officials said in social media posts Thursday.
Photos from the July 4 rescue show a puppy with large ears, bundled up and carrying bowls of food, at a San Mateo County fire station.
The coyote was found in an uncontiguous area of the county, just south of San Francisco.
Firefighters from Cal Fire CZU had “observed this pup running around with its mother, but this time the mother was nowhere to be seen. The small animal appeared disoriented and was stumbling around,” the post accompanying the photos reads.
They gave the pup water and chicken until rescuers from the Peninsula Humane Society & The SPCA was able to take in the small coyote, who was dehydrated and malnourished.
