The House Republican campaign arm has delivered a “DUI prevention kit” to Sen. Dave Min, the California Democrat running to replace Rep. Katie Porter, to mark the one-year anniversary of his DUI arrest.
The kit, put together by the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) and hand-delivered to the candidate’s Senate office, included non-alcoholic beer, a breathalyzer, bottled water and “tips to avoid drunk driving.”
Min, 48, was arrested by police in Sacramento on May 3, 2023, after running a red light in his Toyota Camry with his headlights off.
The Harvard law graduate, who hopes to win the 47th District in Orange County, admitted to being detained overnight and booked by officers.
‘Last night I got a violation for driving under the influence. My decision to drive last night was irresponsible,” Min wrote on social media at the time.
‘I accept full responsibility and there is no excuse for my actions. To my family, voters and supporters: I am so deeply sorry.
‘I know I have to do better. I will not allow this personal failure to distract from our work in California and Washington.”
Police administered a DUI test and arrested him on suspicion of driving with a blood alcohol level above the legal limit. The results have not been released.
“Officers contacted the driver of the vehicle and noted signs and symptoms of alcohol intoxication,” the police report said.
“The officers conducted a drunk driving investigation [DUI] Investigation showed that the driver was driving under the influence of alcohol,” the police concluded.
Min apologized to voters and his family on social media, mea culpa, after being arrested for a DUI offense
Min was seen as a front-runner to replace the outgoing Katie Porter, who is eyeing a tilt at the US Senate
Min, a former aide to U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer, is in the running to replace Porter, who is vacating the seat to run for Senate. She supports Min as her successor.
DailyMail.com reported last year that Porter dumped boiling potatoes on her ex-husband’s head and deemed him “too stupid” to have a cell phone, following a pattern of messages from her former associates about anger issues.
Porter barely managed to win in 2022 with 51.5% of the vote, making it a close battle with the Republicans.
Min will face former Republican lawmaker Scott Baugh in November.
