Caleb Plant has finally spoken out about his violent confrontation with Jermall Charlo in Las Vegas, accusing the WBC middleweight champion of provoking him into the infamous punch that went viral last month.

Plant and Charlo, who were both in Sin City in late July for the undisputed welterweight showdown of Errol Spence and Terence Crawford, crossed paths during the pre-fight weigh-in and soon became embroiled in a fiery argument backstage.

Footage then emerged of their altercation turning violent, with Plant – who reigned as 2019-2021 IBF super-middleweight champion – punching Charlo in the face as tempers flared.

And just under two weeks since it happened, Plant has opened up the skirmish and pointed the finger at Charlo, accusing his rival of grabbing his beard and calling him a “b***h ass white boy.”

Speaking on Instagram Live, the 31-year-old said: “A man has a right to defend himself. A grown man touches another grown man in the face, he pulls his beard really hard, and I have the decency to tell you don’t do that again, I’m going to pound you right there.

“I have the decency to tell you not to do that again and all you can answer is that I’m a stupid white boy.

“Look at him, you all get shaken, just like a white boy would. Look at him, all of you, just like a white boy would. Acting like an asshole.”

‘And then you immediately grab my face even harder after I just asked you not to do that anymore. My wife is right behind me and I’m in a room full of peers. I mean… what are you doing?

Plant has now opened up about the incident on Instagram Live

“You know, you make things very difficult for a man. You really put his back against the wall when you start doing all that in front of my wife and everyone in the room. I asked you to stop f*****g me.’

Plant then added more details on X, formerly known as Twitter, by claiming that Charlo was determined to press charges after the incident.

He wrote: ‘And then he wanted to press charges. Swear on my life I can’t make this up.”

Charlo, a former light middleweight champion who has held the WBC middleweight crown since 2019, has yet to comment on the altercation.

The Louisiana fighter has now been out of the ring for more than two years, with his last match being a victory over Juan Macias Montiel in July 2021.

To the dismay of the boxing world, his twin brother Jermell was announced as Canelo Alvarez’s next opponent, despite reports that the Mexican was lined up to meet him.

Plant, meanwhile, is still reeling from two losses in his last three games; after coming loose in March by unanimous decision against David Benavidez after losing his 2021 IBF super-middleweight title to Canelo.
