Caitlyn Jenner didn’t hold back Thursday when she posted a word considered a slur for people with developmental disabilities while responding to former President Donald Trump’s eldest son.
The 74-year-old former Olympian hitched a ride on Donald Trump Jr. — who, along with his father and brother Eric Trump, was found liable for fraudulently reporting the value of Trump family assets in an ongoing fraud lawsuit — after using the term in a tweet complaining about a release of funds in connection with Iran.
Trump Jr. complained that “you can’t use the R-word anymore,” though he felt the need to mention that it was “a big part of our language growing up if you’re my age.”
Caitlyn jumped into his replies, writing, “I say R*****ED!”
However, many posters called her out not only for using the outdated term but also for misspelling it with two Ts, although the ex-athlete remained combative with her critics.
No shame: Caitlyn Jenner, 74, doubled down Thursday after she tweeted the r-word while criticizing the Biden administration and responding to Donald Trump Jr.; seen in October in London
Let’s vent: Trump Jr., who recently testified in a trial in which the judge ruled that the Trump Organization had committed fraud, complained Thursday about the release of funds for humanitarian use in Iran; seen in NYC on Monday
Normal for him? Trump Jr. said the plan to release money for humanitarian aid to Iran was “damn it.” He censored the term but said it was a ‘big part of our vernacular growing up’
“Excuse me…R*****ED,” Caitlyn corrected herself after her typo was pointed out.
But several Twitter users jumped into her mentions to call her “stupid” and ridicule her for misspelling the word.
She tried to pretend she wasn’t upset by the comments by quoting her previous tweet and posting, “Omg I immediately stated it correctly in the comments.”
She added that misspelling the term for people with intellectual disabilities was an “epic ironic failure, I understand that.”
Although the controversial word was previously a medical term widely used in that context from the 1960s onwards, it has since become increasingly common as an insult.
In response to 2010 legislation, federal agencies replaced the use of the r-word with “intellectual disability.”
Although Caitlyn didn’t seem too upset about Twitter users mocking her for using the r-word (and misspelling it), she added another furious post in response to a Page six article about the controversy.
“It’s R*****ED that the Biden admin is releasing another $10 BILLION for IRAN! And losers at @PageSix are going to lecture me about how offensive the word is. GET OVER IT. How about focusing on how dangerous and R********* releasing $10 BILLION for Iran is,” she wrote.
Oops! Jenner responded to him with “I say R*****ED,” but she was mercilessly mocked for misspelling the now offensive term
Notably, after an article about the controversy and criticism of her use of the term appeared on Page Six, Jenner condemned the publication and its writer
Changing the subject: When users called her out for repeatedly writing the r-word, Jenner deflected and criticized the Biden administration
Scorched earth approach: She baselessly accused the publication of sharing “anti-Semitic pro-Iranian propaganda” by highlighting her use of the term, which is considered a slur by people with intellectual problems
Details: Jenner misleadingly claimed that the US sent $10 billion to Iran, but the money, which is controlled by outside entities, can only be used for humanitarian purposes; seen in April 2022 in LA
Jenner’s comments on Iran echoed Donald Trump Jr.’s original comments, referencing a tweet from another account claiming the US provided Iran with $10 billion.
However, the money, currently held in third-party accounts, can only be used for humanitarian needs or other purposes not currently regulated by sanctions, the government said. Associated press.
Following Jenner’s context-free tweets, she wrote, “Shame on @PageSix,” and a writer for the publication for “lying” and “not addressing any context in the UNFREEZING ANOTHER $10 BILLION for IRAN (sic)!”
In response, one user wrote, “You could say all this without using that word. You are despicable.”
Jenner shot back, “I could. And the Biden administration could act less incompetently and not unilaterally hand over another $10 BILLION to a terrorist regime that kills Americans and helpless civilians every day.”
The Kardashians star also accused Page Six of spewing “nothing but anti-Semitic pro-Iranian propaganda garbage” and said it was “derogatory to lecture me on the use of the ‘r-word’.”
Several Twitter users slammed Jenner on the platform for doubling down on her use of the r-word.
“We can be adults and get our point across by using the R-word,” one user wrote. And you wonder why your original point isn’t getting across: it’s your lazy rhetoric and insensitivity toward a certain demographic. Do better, be better.’
Another person urged her to “stop using such a highly offensive word” and called her “disgusting.”
Standing up for others: Several Twitter users called her out for using the ‘highly offensive’ r-word, with one even calling Jenner ‘repulsive’
She comes to her defense: But Jenner also had many right-wing defenders, including one who pronounced the r-word “accurately descriptive.” Another apparent supporter praised the transgender icon for having “balls” and defending herself
“Your point could be made without the word,” another user added. “But it’s clearly more important to be right than to be kind. Imagine that.’
But there were also several right-wing accounts that defended Jenner and applauded her use of the r-word.
‘Medical terms of the past are the swear words of the present. “I can think of better words to use, but none are more accurately descriptive,” one report wrote.
Another person noted that Jenner “doubled down on r*****ed,” adding that Jenner “has balls and I love it.”
