Caitlin Clark wins WNBA Rookie of the Year after missing out on league MVP to A’ja Wilson

Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark has won the WNBA Rookie of the Year award from league officials, a week after receiving the same honor from the Associated Press.

Clark missed out on league MVP, losing that honor to Las Vegas Aces juggernaut A’ja Wilson.

Clark finished fourth in the MVP voting, but also won rookie of the year from the Associated Press. Now the Fever star can add to her trophy case, per The Athletics.

Wilson was previously named WNBA MVP in 2020 and 2022, with Jonquel Jones and Breanna Stewart bookended by Wilson’s wins.

Clark was not expected to win MVP as Wilson set the WNBA scoring record this season.

Wilson’s Las Vegas Aces haven’t won an MVP Award that didn’t go to her, while Tamika Catchings won the Indiana Fever’s only MVP award in 2011.

Wilson was the competition’s second unanimous choice for the award, the first since Cynthia Cooper received all 37 first-place votes in the competition’s inaugural season of 1997.

The WNBA officially named Wilson MVP last Sunday, but has not confirmed Clark’s award win.

Indiana made the postseason for the first time since 2016 with Clark at center, but lost both playoff games to the Connecticut Sun.

The Las Vegas Aces are still the defending league champions after advancing past the Seattle Storm in the WNBA quarterfinals.

Wilson and the rest of her team will face top-ranked New York Liberty in the semifinals.
