Caitlin Clark smashes another WNBA record as superstar rookie scores career high in Fever game

Caitlin Clark isn’t slowing down this season. The Indiana Fever star scored a career-high 35 points along with eight assists to lead her team to victory over the Dallas Wings on Sunday afternoon.

Her 35-point effort helped Clark set the WNBA rookie record for points in a season. With one game remaining in the regular season, she has 761 points.

The record was held in 2006 by Seimone Augustus with 744 points. That 18-year-old record now belongs to Clark, who will have the chance to extend it further on Thursday against the Washington Mystics.

Clark’s 329 assists this season are an all-time league record, whether he’s a rookie or not.

The win over the Wings also moved Indiana into sixth place in the WNBA playoffs, meaning the team will face the Connecticut Sun in the quarterfinals.

The Sun have won three of their four regular season games against the Fever, although Clark led her team to victory in the most recent game.

Connecticut has home-field advantage in the best-of-three series, with both the semifinals and final being a best-of-five series.

Clark’s teammate Kelsey Mitchell added 30 points in the win, with the duo making all but four of Indiana’s 16 three-pointers in the game.

Clark’s debut season is under the microscope, as she led the Fever to a stellar second half of the season after starting 1-8.

The Fever have a 19-11 record since early June, spearheaded by Clark, who likely won rookie of the year honors.

Now the only question is how far Clark can improve her records before the playoffs begin.
