Caitlin Clark is sparking a REVOLT in the WNBA, claims Jason Whitlock

With Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever well into the offseason, Jason Whitlock claimed the rookie sensation should be heading up a league that could rival the WNBA.

As the New York Liberty and Minnesota Lynx battle in the WNBA Finals, players have spread across leagues to make up for their non-lucrative salaries.

On his Fearless program, the ever-controversial sports media personality talked about how poorly the WNBA is run and laid out his idea.

“Half of the WNBA is overseas right now playing in a foreign league because they don’t make enough money during the WNBA season,” Whitlock said. “They already play in rival leagues, why don’t we start a rival league?”

“You can have a rival league that runs during the summer, or you can have a rival league that starts now. Here in America,” he continued.

Whitlock further referred to Clark’s fellow rookie Kamilla Cardoso, one of the players who left the US to play abroad. He added that a rival league fronted by Clark would be ideal for her contemporaries.

“I just saw Kamilla Cardoso, I can’t remember what country she flew to,” Whitlock said. “But do you think Kamilla wouldn’t say, ‘Oh, I don’t have to leave the country, I can play basketball and I can get paid?’ To play in the XX league, where Caitlin Clark and that league will draw a better crowd. More people in the seats than the WNBA. And [Cardoso] does not have to be an instrument for politics.’

Furthermore, Whitlock claimed that Saudi Arabia would be happy to fund the rival league. He also blasted the NBA and WNBA commissioners for failing to maximize Clark’s ability to draw crowds.

“I’m going to tell you who’s going to do this, Saudi Arabia,” he said. ‘They can see what I can see. Man, there’s a lot of momentum behind Caitlin Clark and women’s basketball.”

“Adam Silver, Cathy Engelbert, the people who run the NBA and the WNBA, they’re idiots,” Whitlock continued. “They don’t know how to maximize this gift from Caitlin Clark.”

Clark’s Rookie of the Year campaign spiked the WNBA’s viewership and attendance. While campaigning for the Indiana Fever star to rise up against the league, Whitlock listed players who would jump with her, including rival Angel Reese.

“I don’t really know where Caitlin Clark stands, she may be a hidden feminist, but I know there’s money being talked about,” Whitlock said. “I think if Angel Reese, all she cares about is money and attention, she’ll jump on board. Juju Watkins, she jumps on board. Paige Bueckers, I think she would jump on board.”

Whitlock suggested that UConn women’s basketball Geno Auriemma should be the commissioner and that players should be co-owners of the association.

The Liberty’s Breanna Stewart and the Lynx’s Nepheesa Collier – both UConn alumni – founded the Unrivaled 3on3 league, which launches in January. The league is played in Florida and has 26 players and six teams.
