After very little speculation and much pomp and circumstance, the Indiana Fever have selected Caitlin Clark with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft.

Clark, who led Iowa to back-to-back national title game appearances, will remain in the Midwest and hope to lend a helping hand to a struggling Indiana franchise that hasn’t been in the playoffs since 2016.

But now, one of the best to ever grace a college basketball court is heading to the professional ranks, where she’ll team up with last year’s No. 1 overall pick: Aliyah Boston.

Clark left Iowa owning the record for most points ever scored by a man or woman in college basketball history.

But she never got to taste the success of a college championship, falling to LSU in the 2023 title game and to South Carolina in the 2024 title game.

Clark celebrated at the draft in Brooklyn and walked to the stage where she was greeted by WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert with a hug and a Fever jersey.

She’s already excited enough to warrant an appearance on Saturday Night Live this weekend.

Tonight, Clark stepped out in head-to-toe Prada, becoming the first WNBA or NBA player to be dressed for a draft by the draft house.

According to Spotrac, Clark’s rookie contract will be worth $338,056, paid out over the course of four years – with an option for a fourth year.

After Clark was taken first overall, picks two and three were Stanford’s Cameron Brink to the Los Angeles Sparks and South Carolina’s Kamilla Cardoso to the Chicago Sky. After the top three, Rickea Jackson of Tennessee was again placed fourth overall by the Sparks and Jacy Sheldon of Ohio State was placed fifth overall by the Dallas Wings.

Clark will take the field for her first regular season game in about a month – when the Fever travel to take on the Connecticut Sun on May 14.
