Caitlin Clark gears up for next Angel Reese showdown in style as Indiana Fever blast their way to a fourth straight WNBA win at Atlanta Dream

Another sold out arena and an impressive fourth straight win for Indiana Fever, with Caitlin Clark once again brilliant against the Atlanta Dream.

All in all, it was a perfect Friday night – and quite a warning shot for the Chicago Sky and Angel Reese ahead of Sunday’s blockbuster showdown in Illinois.

Perhaps the most impressive thing about their dominant 79-91 victory was that as good as Clark was — who scored 16 points with seven assists and four rebounds — she didn’t have to be at her electrifying best until the third quarter.

There, as Atlanta cut a 15-point deficit to eight, Clark artfully maneuvered a point all the way to the right for two. Then, out of nowhere, she sank a breathtaking three-pointer as three Dream players emerged.

Seconds later, when another 3-pointer clanged off the rim, it felt like the roof of State Farm was about to come off. But the lead had returned to 14, and Clark’s outburst mercilessly wiped away any momentum Atlanta was building.

Overall, she showed her ability in flashes and was as good as she needed to be when her team needed it on a night where she also became the third-fastest player in WNBA history to reach 100 assists.

Not that this lively audience of 17,000 would have felt like they weren’t getting a show.

In the first, Clark found Kristy Wallace with a bullet off a diagonal pass across the field, who capped it off with three points from the courter.

Clark raised the roof with two 3-pointers of his own in the second quarter, the second coming on a sharp steal from Erica Walker. After winning the ball back, she found Clark with all the space she needed to take her spot from wide left. She doesn’t miss that.

Just when it felt like Clark was hitting top speed, she was punished for traveling — a call was met with a collective groan from the crowd desperate to see the WNBA’s new star shine every time she was on the ball.

Fever led by 16 at halftime and eventually won by a margin of 12. The Fever sits at 7-10 on the season while the Dream slips to 7-7.

In the hours before tip-off, the streets of downtown Atlanta were buzzing.

There were as many Fever and Iowa “Clark 22” jerseys in Centennial Olympic Park as there were Argentina “Messi 10” jerseys basking in the 90-degree sun. It was a scene that would have seemed barely believable just a few months ago.

The night before, football’s ultimate star was in attendance and led Argentina to a 2-0 win against Canada in the Copa America – likely his last international tournament.

But as a historic sporting legacy reached its final stretch in the 70,000-seat stadium that towers over State Farm Arena, Clark prepared for just the 17th installment of her WNBA career and this sensational new dawn for the women’s game.

Once again, it was another stadium change, with the Dream moving the game to the Hawks’ home base instead of the usual 3,500 Gateway Center Arena. On game day it was once again sold out with Clark’s presence meaning Indiana could feel at home as they cruised to victory.

But next up for the Fever is the trip to Chicago on Sunday, where it will surely be the opposite of the atmosphere in Atlanta.

With Reese and Carter lurking, Indiana will walk into the lion’s den to try to extend this winning streak to five.

Play like this, though, and the Sky won’t be the limit.
