A WNBA legend didn’t hold back on Stephen A. Smith, despite previously criticizing Caitlin Clark… calling the longtime ESPN’er a “coward.”
Last week, Smith, an outspoken Clark supporter, criticized Sherly Swoopes for not mentioning Clark when praising other WNBA stars on her podcast “Queens of the Court,” prompting Smith to call her “crazy” on his own show.
Swoopes, a four-time league champion, took offense to Smith’s insult and criticism.
“You talk about whoever and whatever you want on your podcast. Is that true? Why can’t I,” she posted on X on Saturday. “And did you listen to the ENTIRE episode? NO! I have a personal connection to these players and they deserve recognition too.”
Swoopes later added, “Do you talk about them (or others in the competition) and give them your support? I hope you take all this energy to the polls and vote!”

The four-time WNBA champion then followed up on her initial response to Smith with a message that may resonate with current and former pros.
“@stephenasmith btw… you’re new to this, I’m loyal to this!” she posted on X.
Swoopes saved her most searing comment for last: “I don’t know what he thought he was doing?…I’m ready to appear on his show!! Coward.”

In Smith’s defense, Swoopes had previously ridiculed Clark when the Fever rookie was still at the University of Iowa, when the former pro questioned the legitimacy of Clark’s NCAA D1 scoring record.
Swoopes incorrectly stated at the time that Clark had played five seasons at Iowa, when in fact she had played four.
Like Jason Whitlock, Smith has previously expressed how much the predominantly black WNBA resents the white Clark and her success.
Earlier in August, Swoopes was criticized by Elle Duncan for hating on Clark. However, the ESPN’er retracted her comments and apologized to the Houston Comets legend.
