Caitlin Clark and Indiana Fever’s WNBA winning streak is OVER despite rookie sensation breaking new record in Minnesota Lynx defeat

The Indiana Fever suffered their first loss in six games on Friday night despite Caitlin Clark breaking another WNBA record.

Clark scored 25 points as the Fever lost 99-88 to the Minnesota Lynx, who were also the last team to beat them on August 24.

Although Indiana’s winning streak is over, their new sensation still managed to set a new franchise record by making her 103rd three-pointer of the season.

No other player in Fever history has ever made more than 102 three-pointers in a single season, and Clark needs to improve her total in five more regular-season games.

Minnesota, which secured a playoff spot last month, is now 24-9 on the season thanks to 26 points from Napheesa Collier.

Bridget Carleton was present with 16 points, while Courtney Williams (15) and Alanna Smith (13) also had positive evenings.

In addition to Clark’s 25 points, Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston scored 20 for the Fever.

Despite their loss, Indiana had also secured a spot in the playoffs before Friday’s game, after the Chicago Sky and Atlanta Dream secured their playoff spots on Wednesday.

Clark isn’t tired of breaking records in her rookie season with the Fever. Just two days ago, the 22-year-old became the fastest WNBA player ever to reach 100 three-pointers in a season, when she did so in just 34 games.

She is also one of only six players to ever reach 100, joining Sabrina Ionescu, Diana Taurasi, Arike Ogunbowale, Jewell Loyd, Kelsey Plum and teammate Kelsey Mitchell in the history books.

Clark is the only one of these players who also has 200 assists to his name.

The former Iowa college star is coming off a breathtaking debut season in the WNBA, breaking numerous records and generating historic amounts of attention for women’s basketball.

WNBA icon Nancy Lieberman has even compared her to pop star Taylor Swift.

“It doesn’t matter who people like right now. It’s Caitlin Clark. She’s the Taylor Swift of women’s basketball right now,” Lieberman said on Sirius XM’s NBA radio station.

“Her fans are like ‘Swifties’, they’re extremely loyal. And every arena you go into, half the people there are her fans wearing her shirts.

“She’s a media superstar, but damn it… she backs it up every step of the way. Her numbers are unreal what she’s done, whether it’s the second triple-double, or leading the league in assists.”
