Cairns mum is slamming childcare center after her daughter was left with a broken ankle for six hours
A mother has razed a children’s center after her two-year-old daughter broke her ankle and was reportedly left without medical care for six hours.
The Cairns mother dropped her two daughters off at a local childcare center on September 14.
She claims that when she returned to pick up her children at 2:30 p.m., she found her two-year-old sleeping.
When she woke up, the toddler was in severe pain and could not get up. The staff informed the mother that she had tripped earlier in the day, but was fine.
“(The staff) wasn’t sure why she was upset all day,” the mother said Cairns Post.

‘She wouldn’t stop crying even when I held her. I got stressed. She wouldn’t let me put her down…she screamed all the way home.’
When they arrived home at around 3pm, the mother immediately called an ambulance, which transported her daughter to Cairns Hospital.
X-rays showed the little girl had a fracture in the lower part of her left tibia, an injury that doctors said was “more common in athletes,” the mother said.
“Doctors said she had been in extreme pain all day and it would have been a ‘quite a fall’ to do this,” the mother said.
A photo taken around 8am shows the two-year-old child, who has autism, playing on a trampoline.
In another photo, taken at 1 p.m., the child lies crying on the daycare floor as her sister tries to comfort her.
Daily Mail Australia is not suggesting the center is at fault and it is unclear how exactly the child broke her ankle.
The center has strongly denied the mother’s allegations, claiming the incident “simply didn’t happen.”
“The photo (1 p.m.) of my child is of her crying and lying flat on the floor… and her sister trying to comfort her. Where was the care there?’ said the mother.
The center claims they became aware of the allegations five days later, when the mother shared the incident on social media.
“At this time, we have still not received any direct communication from the child’s family,” the center said.
The Department of Education has launched an investigation, with staff issuing statements refuting allegations that the two-year-old child suffered harm in their care.
“We are confident that the department’s investigation process will clear both the center and our staff of any misconduct or negligence,” the center said.

The mother has also filed a complaint with the Ministry of Education, with the Early Childhood Regulatory Authority investigating the claims and working to establish the facts.
“As the Early Childhood Regulatory Authority (ECRA), the department gives the highest priority to the health, safety and wellbeing of all children who attend these services,” an ECRA spokesperson said.
‘The ECRA is actively investigating this incident to determine the relevant facts and address any immediate risks.
“As the matter is currently under investigation, the department is unable to provide any further comment at this time.”
