- Cairns airport security breach causes chaos
- Passengers were removed from their planes
Chaos has broken out at Cairns airport after a security breach.
Passengers at Cairns Airport had to be re-screened, and passengers were reportedly even removed from the plane.
“They kicked my buddy off the plane and now everyone is standing outside what the hell is going on,” one person wrote in a Facebook post.
“The speaker just said because of the security issues where every passenger is rescreened at the airport… there are LITERALLY THOUSANDS of people,” the person added.
A Cairns Airport spokesperson confirmed that a passenger had not undergone the required screening, resulting in everyone at the airport having to be re-screened.
“Shortly after midday on Monday, a passenger entered the departure lounge at Cairns Airport without undergoing the required screening. There was no immediate risk associated with this,” the spokesperson said.
‘It is standard procedure and in accordance with Cairns Airport’s statutory security requirements to re-screen all persons in the departure lounge following such an event.
“This process has been completed as quickly as possible and we appreciate our customers’ patience and understanding.”

A video posted to X around 1 p.m. shows a long line outside the airport door, with a traveler inside demanding answers.
“What is going on with the safety line? This is ridiculous,” the person wrote.
‘Lines don’t move at all. No direction or announcements.’
