Caboolture: Man, 23, charged with murder after Queensland police find body in blood-soaked unit

A man has been charged with murder after another man was found dead in a unit north of Brisbaneduring a health check.

Queensland Police were called by a caretaker to the Caboolture unit block, where a 41-year-old man lived, after discovering blood at around 9.15am on Wednesday.

During the welfare check, officers discovered the man’s body and blood was found ‘throughout the property’ on Torrens Rd, Caboolture South.

The Courier-Mail has named the dead man as Alan Waterman.

A 23-year-old man, who was inside the property, was charged with murder on Wednesday evening and had deliberately entered the home.

The man, from Everton Park, a suburb of Brisbane, must appear before the Caboolture Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Detective Inspector Stephen Windsor addressed the media on Wednesday afternoon and said it appears a weapon was used.

The victim sustained injuries to his neck. The science unit is still processing the scene and the body, but there are some wounds,” Detective Windsor said.

He says their investigation so far has not shown that anyone else was in the property, or that the men know each other, with no signs of a break-in.

“There appears to have been contact early this morning, but it does not appear to be a home invasion,” Windsor said.

He indicated that the 23-year-old man was found with ‘blood on him’, but that he himself did not appear to be injured.

“It was confronting for the first police… there was a significant amount of what appeared to be blood in the premises… it was quite a harrowing encounter for the first responders,” Mr. Windsor said.

Neighbors reported a man knocking on doors early Wednesday morning, but police could not confirm whether that was the same man charged.

Anyone with more information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Caboolture is a suburb in Moreton Bay, approximately 47 km north of Brisbane’s CBD.
