A three-month-old baby has died from serious injuries sustained in a horrific car crash that killed his mother two days earlier.

Emergency services rushed to Caboolture River Rd near Tinney Rd in Upper Caboolture, in Brisbane’s north, about 2.30pm on Friday after reports a car had hit a tree.

The 33-year-old mother from Caboolture was pronounced dead at the scene and her son suffered serious injuries after being thrown from an approved child seat.

The three-month-old baby was taken to Queensland Children’s Hospital, where he died on Sunday afternoon.

Sergeant Greg Price of the Burpengary Forensic Crash Unit told reporters on Saturday that the cause of the crash remains under investigation.

“At this stage, the investigation shows that the vehicle was traveling eastbound on Caboolture River Rd near Tinney Rd and left the road, colliding with several large trees,” he said.

‘The vehicle suffered extensive damage as a result of the crash. We are looking for witnesses to the crash or a dashcam of the crash.

‘We are investigating what the driver’s actions were prior to the accident. Most people who called [on Friday] saw the crash, they were not witnesses.”

More to come.
