Byron Bay residents slam ‘entitled’ tourists for treating local road ‘like a car park’ so they could snap the amazing view at one of Australia’s most famous locations

Furious locals have criticized ‘entitled’ tourists who blocked a main road by parking their cars to watch the sunrise at a famous Australian landmark.

Chaotic scenes engulfed the scenic Byron Bay location on New Zealand’s north coast on Tuesday morning as dozens of tourists blocked the road to the Cape Byron Lighthouse to catch a glimpse of the breathtaking views.

Resident Helene Konig uploaded a video and photos to Facebook yesterday afternoon showing cars driving through the parking lots near the famous lighthouse.

“Zero f***s given in the lighthouse parking lot this morning,” Ms. Konig wrote.

Shocking footage showed several vehicles left on the road in front of the public car park by tourists desperate to see the sunrise.

Large vans and SUVs were among the vehicles blocking the road, preventing local residents from getting in and out of the area.

Ms Konig said a local resident who had left his car in the car park had to wait for several tourists to move their vehicles because he could not get out.

“He was sitting in his car which was parked in a normal parking space and he was parked,” Ms Konig said. Yahoo.

“He got out and told the young crew coming out of their car to move it, but they refused because they wanted to capture the sunrise.”

Ms Konig said most tourists in their early 20s decided to leave their cars on the road once the car park was full.

Her social media post was flooded with dozens of comments from users expressing outrage at the drivers for blocking the road.

“Entitled,” one user wrote.

“Those who block access to the road should receive a large fine, plus loss of points,” said another.

‘Let’s go to Byron, there are no traffic rules there.’

Others suggested solutions to the area’s parking problem.

“A shuttle is needed regularly from one of the parking garages down the road,” said one user.

The Cape Byron Lighthouse car park opens around 8am and is regularly busy as it is promoted as an ideal place to watch the sunrise.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Byron Shire Council for comment.
