Byron Bay mansion is rumoured to have been snapped up by tech entrepreneur Benjamin Bray

Young tech entrepreneur Benjamin Bray is rumored to be the buyer behind the $37 million purchase of ‘The Range’ retreat in Byron Bay.

The 48-acre mansion located on Coopers Shoot was bought last month for the record amount.

It was formerly owned by Tom Lane, the heir to the Oroton fashion empire, and his wife Emma.

The pair made a sizable profit after initially purchasing the prime estate for $3.8 million in 2017.

Mr Bray, 27, is said to be the buyer of the property, which offers stunning views of the Byron hinterland, reports Vastgoed.com.au.

Mr. Bray, who is originally from New Zealand, is the managing director of Sydney-based technology innovation company Nakatomi.

He lives in Bondi after buying a penthouse in the beachside suburb for $4.25 million in 2020, the publication said.

Three buyers reportedly competed for ‘The Range’ before it was finally sold.

Nestled on 124 acres of rich farmland, ‘The Range’ features six bedrooms, eight bathrooms, a number of separate accommodation buildings and parking for up to eight vehicles.

The residences on the property are ‘The Fishing Shack’, ‘The Barn Studio’ and ‘The Cabin Inn’.

It also includes a 15-meter mineral infinity pool and spa, infrared sauna, gym, macadamia forest, entertainment and dining areas, 5,000 macadamia trees, dams, five remnant rainforests, and a koala habitat.

The mansion is equipped with a number of solar panels and rainwater saving tanks.

But the most striking part of the property is the breathtaking views of the surrounding farmland and the ocean.

It is described by Realestate.com.au as drawing on ‘European influences’ with a ‘passion for living in harmony with the land’.

‘The Range’ previously operated as a luxury vacation rental that would cost as much as $67,000 a week.

Australian actors Liam Hemsworth and Nicole Kidman were just some of the big names who rented out the estate for a period of time.

The mansion was sold through Kim Jones, of The Range Estates, who originally put it on the market last year for $40 million.

The $37 million price tag for ‘The Range’ set a new record for purchases in the Byron Shire.

The previous record was set by Clare Mulham, of the billionaire Roche family, who bought a 16-acre estate in Suffolk Park for $26 million last year.

There was also the $22 million purchase of the ‘Hercules’ estate – also located in Coopers Shoot.

It was snatched by Adrian Puljic, the managing director of the lifestyle resort operator, GemLife, and his wife.
