B*Witched is back with new music, it was announced on Thursday.

The iconic ’90s girl group, consisting of Irish twin sisters Edele and Keavy Lynch and Lindsay Armaou and Sinéad O’Carroll, have released their brand new EP Ripped Jeans.

That’s because they’re currently in the middle of a summer tour, which has seen them showcase their feel-good vibes at major open-air shows across the country, including Mighty Hoopla and SuperBoxx.

Ripped Jeans – a nod to their usual denim looks – is their first collection of new songs in a decade and the EP is released alongside new single So Into You.

The band said about this: ‘We all need a soundtrack for the summer and this is it!’

A statement continued: ‘So Into You takes addictive, supercharged dance-pop to the extreme, while B*Witched launch a powerful, contemporary sound that’s as fresh and full of the vibrancy they’re known for.

‘The energetic sound, set against pulsating beats and fast rock guitars, captures the excitement you feel when you’re suddenly ‘So Into You’.

‘It may have been a quarter of a century (!) since B*Witched first became superstars, but So Into You shows that they have lost none of their youthful enthusiasm from back then.’

In addition to So Into You and last year’s single Birthday, the Ripped Jeans EP also features two other brand new songs from B*Witched: Multiply and My Greatest Little Mistake.

The Ripped Jeans EP features collaborations with Mondo-Ray, James Lawton, Emily Andrews and Hamish Brodie, among others.

All tracks are co-written by Ray Hedges, the Ivor Novello award-winning songwriter with whom B*Witched have collaborated on all of their hit singles.

The band made their debut with their unforgettable hit C’est La Vie, the first in a string of four consecutive number one hits in the UK, followed by Rollercoaster, To You I Belong and Blame It On The Weatherman.

They added two more top five hits, first with the all-star tribute mash-up Thank ABBA For The Music and then with their own song Jesse Hold On.

The success of their singles also resulted in a place in the album charts. Their self-titled debut album (number 3) and Awake and Breathe (number 5) both achieved platinum status, selling over five million copies.

They also achieved great success in America: they reached the top 10 of the Billboard charts with C’est La Vie, topped the sales charts for eight weeks and toured with N’Sync and Britney Spears.

Their popularity also extended into the streaming era, with the songs on C’est La Vie: The Collection having been played 140 million times on Spotify alone.

B*Witched also performed numerous arena shows in the late 90s, a level they reached again in 2013 with the package tour The Big Reunion.

Last August, the band stunned fans during an appearance on Good Morning Britain in preparation for their comeback tour.

They looked fantastic as they landed on the sofa, a quarter of a century after they conquered the charts with their hit C’est la Vie.

On Twitter, a slew of admirers responded in admiration of their appearance, writing: ‘They look amazing. Good luck with the tour… What’s their secret? They haven’t aged in a quarter of a century and still look amazing.’ [sic]

Edele, Keavy, Lindsay and Sinead appeared on the morning show to discuss their reunion tour, performing in jeans, a look that has become synonymous with the group.

The band was formed in 1996, when Keavy, Sinead and Edele collaborated and later introduced Lindsay. After their huge rise to fame in 2001 due to declining sales, they were dropped by their record label Sony.

Heartbroken over the forced hiatus, Sinead left the group, leading to a split in September 2001.

In 2012, the group reunited for the ITV2 series The Big Reunion, along with six other pop groups from the era: Honeyz, 911, Liberty X, Five and Atomic Kitten and Blue.

Edele revealed on the show that she had had a falling out with Sinead in 2006 and that they had not spoken to each other since.

She said of the reunion: ‘My biggest fear about doing this – there’s only one, and that’s Sinéad, I think. It’s just how I’m going to feel being around her again.’

Lindsay added: ‘Some of the problems weren’t even there until we had the opportunity to work together again. That’s when we were like, ‘Oh, okay, in order to do this, we have to work out a few things first…’

“It all just came out. It was hard to get to this point. There’s been a lot of talk, a lot of talk. But we’re here now. It’s very surreal to be called B*Witched again, because it’s been 12 years.”

In 2021, Edele revealed that she actually stepped away from the spotlight to make ends meet. She admitted that she took on a white-collar job to pay the bills, as she was struggling to make enough money from her music career at the time.

The singer, who lives in Manchester, explained that despite her new job as an administrative assistant and her training as an actress, she is waiting for opportunities to sing again.

Along with two former members of the Irish girl group, Edele told Virgin Media One’s Elaine show that having three children influenced her decision. She said: ‘To be honest, I’ve taken on a clerical job for the past year to pay the bills…

“We literally have nothing to do and no support in our industry. I have three kids so I have to be realistic and bring in some money. I’m an administrative prodigy at the moment!”

Last year the girls explained why so many bands from the 90s are getting back together.

They said: ‘Lockdown put a lot of pressure on a lot of people. They just wanted to find some freedom again and be somewhere where they felt really happy and where they remembered things being a bit easier…

“I think the 90s were like that for a lot of people.”
