Bus driver is suspended over very dangerous act on a busy highway – and you won’t believe what he did
A bus driver has been suspended after he was filmed transferring money using his phone while driving a bus along a busy highway.
The driver was spotted in the middle of the dangerous act by a FIFO officer as the vehicle traveled along the Gateway Motorway in Boondall, Brisbane, on February 23.
Nambour man Warren Smith took out his phone and captured the daring act which saw the bus driver fiddling with his mobile screen.
“He changed lanes, cut off a car and they honked at him, so he was just a bit of a reckless driver and wasn’t paying attention,” Mr Smith said. Sunshine Coast daily.
The driver’s actions led to him being suspended by his employer Con-X-ion, with director Paul Stratton saying the company was investigating the incident.
The driver (pictured) used his phone, apparently to make an online payment transaction, and a FIFO worker on the bus was so shocked that he filmed what happened as evidence
Mr Smith said that after the driver completed his bank transfer, he started checking his messages while riding on a crowded bus.
He called what happened “ridiculous.”
The FIFO worker said he was terrified, even though he himself has a “very dangerous job” helping to build transmission lines.
“We use helicopters, a lot of dangerous equipment and the most dangerous part of my month away at work was the drive from Brisbane Airport back to the Sunshine Coast,” he said.
“The most dangerous part of my job shouldn’t be the trip to and from the airport.”
The company apologized to Mr Smith and offered him a refund, but the FIFO employee said he refused to ever use another bus from them.
Mr Smith said that in future he will take the Airtrain from Nambour, which, although it takes 30 minutes longer, is ‘a lot cheaper and will certainly be a lot safer’.
In a statement from the company, Mr Stratton said the driver had been immediately suspended.
“There was initial confusion as to which driver was involved in this incident as a third party contracted driver also provided part of the transfer for this customer,” he said.
‘After further investigation, we determined that the driver in question was a driver who worked for Con-X-ion.
“Con-X-ion will not tolerate any of our drivers driving in an unsafe or distracted manner and we are extremely disappointed with the driver’s actions on this occasion.
‘The driver involved has been suspended with immediate effect and we will now follow our internal disciplinary process.’
Daily Mail Australia contacted Con-X-ion for further comment.
