A woman has died tragically after a fire swept through a house with flames shooting out of the roof and windows, forcing firefighters to dodge falling debris.
The 85-year-old’s body was discovered Saturday afternoon in the gutted remains of the Sydney home on Fitzroy Street in Burwood in northwest Sydney.
Fire and rescue inspector Adam Dewberry told Daily Mail Australia that firefighters arrived to confront scenes with flames bursting from windows and through the roof and smoke billowing into the air.
A body was found in the house after a search of the ruins and has yet to be formally identified

“We got there and there was an area of the house with heavy fire activity,” he said.
“It was a bit dangerous because the roof collapsed and tiles got on the firefighters,” he said.
The falling debris forced the fire brigade to extinguish the flames mainly from the outside.
Firefighters tried to put out the blaze and prevent other houses from burning before the house was destroyed by the fire. Nine news reported.
Emergency services were on site for the rest of the afternoon to extinguish the fire that continued to flare up.
