  • Wout Weghorst is in talks with Bundesliga side Hoffenheim about a transfer on a rental basis
  • The striker has not played for Burnley since the last match day of the 2021-2022 season
  • He spent the past campaign on loan at Besiktas and Man United with mixed success

Burnley striker Wout Weghorst discusses a move to Hoffenheim.

The towering 31-year-old played twice on loan last season, first at Besiktas and later at Manchester United.

In Turkey, he scored nine times in 18 appearances and his contract there was terminated after impressing United bosses.

Despite bringing others into play well, a return of two goals in 31 appearances in his surprising spell with the Red Devils was widely regarded as under-par and he could now leave Turf Moor for a third loan.

To the public, he was an unhappy figure during Burnley’s relegation in 2021-2022 and had a verbal agreement with the Lancashire team that he could leave if they fell in the Championship.

The Dutchman, who came over in 2022 from The Clarets van Wolfsburg, previously had great successes in the Bundesliga.

His 70-goal haul in 144 appearances for Wolfsburg marked him as one of the sharpest marksmen in Germany and a return to the Bundesliga with Hoffenheim could prove productive.

The club hopes to fight back higher up the German top flight after three seasons of mediocre mediocrity.
