Vincent Kompany has taken advantage of Burnley’s blank weekend by setting up two friendlies to help his new side settle in more quickly.
With the Clarets game at Luton postponed on Saturday as Kenilworth Road undergoes ground improvements, Burnley have set up games against Scottish clubs Dundee and St Johnstone behind closed doors at their training ground on Friday.
The SPL teams are available as they are already eliminated from the Viaplay Cup, the last 16 matches of which will be played north of the border next weekend.
Kompany is keen to work on different aspects of team play after Burnley’s 3-0 home defeat to Manchester City on Friday and Bruun Larsen, who has joined Hoffenheim on loan, said: “We need to keep our heads up. You don’t get much from City so you have to be clinical.’
Kompany believes that his team can only get stronger after the defeat.
Vincent Kompany has arranged two friendlies for Burnley to fill the upcoming blank weekend
“I think we had five guys starting for the first time for the club, a player starting his first career debut and overall we had chances and we knew it was going to be difficult,” he said.
“We need to take the positives out of this game and you can’t feel good about a loss, but I’ve seen enough to show that we’ve made progress since the last time we played.
“Like I said before, this is the worst we will be this season, this team is only getting stronger.”
Kompany thought that his team created opportunities, but was ‘not dangerous enough’ against City.
“At the end of the day there is nothing to do but stick to a game plan and in the game we conceded after three minutes, but you have to live with the consequences and stick to it,” he said.
The Clarets were outclassed by Manchester City as they bounced back to life in the Premier League
“I feel like we have that spell in the first half (where) we created dangerous possession, balls in dangerous areas.
“Then in the second half a little bit of momentum and possession where we put the game down.
“But in those moments when there was a little bit of momentum, you have to do something. We were dangerous, but not dangerous enough. It’s difficult against the best team in the world.’
