Burnley is back! Vincent Kompany’s side seal PROMOTION to the Premier League after beating Middlesbrough… as the Clarets in form are 19 points clear of the play-offs as they take the Championship title

  • Burnley have secured an automatic promotion spot back to the Premier League
  • The Clarets fell 19 points clear of the Play-Off places after beating Boro
  • Vincent Kompany’s team has immediately returned to the top class this season

Burnley have secured their place in the Premier League next season by beating Middlesbrough 2-1 on Friday.

The Clarets, managed by former Man City captain Vincent Kompany, moved 19 points ahead of third-placed Luton to secure automatic promotion.

Afterwards, all eyes were on Kompany’s side Fourth in the table, Luton was unable to win at Millwall and was mathematically ruled out of a top two finish.

It meant Burnley needed a win over Michael Carrick’s Middlesbrough side to book their ticket back to England’s top flight, which they did.

Kompany’s side were league leaders for most of the season and were expected to be one of the teams to finish in the top two at the end of the year.

They have suffered just two defeats during the Championship season and have more than earned their place at the top of the table.

They have also scored the most goals (76) and conceded the fewest (30) of any team in the Championship this year, proving their dominance.

23-year-old striker Nathan Tella, who is currently on loan from Southampton, has been instrumental in their promotion after scoring 17 goals and three assists.

Fans of the Clarets will be ecstatic at how their 2022-23 season turned out given their relegation from the top flight last season.

The club went through a number of changes as long-standing manager Sean Dyche left and City legend Kompany was signed for the Championship season.

Although there were initial question marks, the Belgium manager has proven to be an excellent fit for Turf Moor and has helped reinvent identity in Burnley football.

A crucial aspect is the influx of players from the Belgian league.

This season, Kompany brought in eight players from the First Division.

The likes of Manuel Benson, Josh Cullen and Anass Zaroury have proven to be brilliant recruiting pieces for the upcoming Premier League side.

It serves as the first notable achievement of Kompany’s managerial career, after just 10 months in charge at Turf Moor.
