Burger King shut by health officials as disgusting conditions are revealed
Health officials closed a Burger King after discovering raw sewage flowing through a drain in the kitchen.
The gruesome discovery was the most serious of five violations at the Hernando, Florida, facility.
‘Sewage/wastewater flows back through the floor drain in the kitchen between the sink and the area where the food is packed,’ Florida inspectors wrote.
“We observed workers walking through the sewer to pack orders.”
Other concerns included an overflowing dumpster, water leaking through the ceiling into the dining room (where buckets were placed to catch the water) and a dirty floor with standing water.
The Burger King at 635 W Norvell Bryant Hwy, Hernando, Florida, was forced to close for half a day after raw sewage leaked up a drain in the kitchen
Following the inspection on September 10, Burger King was closed for the rest of the day.
The restaurant reopened the next day after a follow-up inspection found it met inspection standards, but the overflowing dumpster was still a problem.
This month’s closure marked the second time the Hernando Burger King has been closed by health officials.
In June 2015, inspectors discovered 12 problems, including three high-priority ones: approximately 15 cockroaches and flying insects in the kitchen.
Burger King did not respond to a request from DailyMail.com for comment on the discovery of raw sewage in the kitchen of the Hernando restaurant.
The Burger King in Hernando is not the first fast food restaurant to raise hygiene concerns.
Last week, a mother claimed she found maggots in her McDonalds hamburger, causing her to become “so sick” she lost 15 pounds.
The anonymous American woman, who used TikTok, said she was treating herself to a Big Mac at a US branch when she reportedly made the gruesome discovery.
After finishing her meal, she immediately experienced severe stomach pain and abruptly stopped eating.
It wasn’t until she opened her hamburger bun that she discovered there were white “worms” in her meal.
In the sickening video posted to the platform, the disgusting maggots can be seen wriggling on the beef burger.
A McDonald’s employee shared a post on Reddit about what appeared to be just under 50 clear plastic cups containing flies that his coworker had caught in the restaurant
Meanwhile, at another McDonald’s, an employee was caught catching dozens of flies and placing them in clear plastic cups in the kitchen.
The anonymous staff member eventually caught so many flies in several cups that he was able to build a “colosseum” using the clear plastic traps – what his colleague described as in a Reddit post on the McDonaldsEmployees forum.
“There are old photos here, but a colleague caught about 40 flies in cups. This must be a violation,” the colleague wondered.
