Bungee jumper dies after heart attack in mid-air over ravine in Chile

A young man has died in mid-air while bungee jumping over a ravine in Chile.
The 23-year-old took part in the thrilling event above the Cajón del Maipo gorge near Santiago, but suffered health problems along the way.
Tragedy continued when he reportedly suffered a heart attack shortly after jumping off the platform.
The unnamed victim died in the air and San José de Maipo firefighters cut his body from the bungee cord.
The young adventurer, from the town of Talca, visited the attraction with his mother and sister. Media claim they saw the disaster happen.

Public prosecutor Juan Cheuquiante arrived on the scene to gather information.
It remains unclear whether the man had an underlying health problem before taking part in the jump and an investigation into his death has been launched.
In December last year, a 56-year-old tourist collapsed and died after completing the world’s highest bungee jump in China.
The Japanese man was taken to Conde S. Januario Hospital in Macau, China after jumping from the Macau Tower.
Officials said he suffered from shortness of breath and eventually lost consciousness shortly after the 700-foot jump at 4:30 p.m.
Paramedics found he was not breathing and had no pulse when they arrived on the scene. He was pronounced dead after being taken to hospital.
Meanwhile, a bungee jump gone wrong in Thailand saw a tourist’s bungee cord snap during a ten-storey jump, leaving him unconscious as he plunged into the water below.
Witnesses captured the terrifying moment on camera as Hong Kong man Mike was pulled to safety after the elastic rope he was tied to broke during a dive in Pattaya in February 2023.
He reportedly suffered injuries to the left side of his body, his chest and his lungs, and was taken to a nearby hospital by staff.
A Hong Kong-based news outlet reported that the activity park only compensated Mike for the cost of the bungee experience and for the emergency outpatient clinic costs.
