Bunbury Airport, Western Australia: Pilot dies after his light plane crashes near an airport

A man has died days after a horror plane crash that left him trapped in the plane for almost half an hour.

Emergency services were called after reports that a private plane had crashed near Bunbury Airport, 170 kilometers south of Perth, about 2.45pm on Friday.

WA Police confirmed the plane crashed at the end of the runway on the east side of the South West Hwy.

The 63-year-old pilot was trapped in the plane after the crash, but was removed around 3:10 p.m.

Firefighters had to work for more than half an hour to remove him from the plane.

He suffered serious injuries in the crash, including a broken pelvis and several facial injuries.

He was then assessed at the scene by paramedics from St John Ambulance before being flown to Royal Perth Hospital in a critical condition.

WA police said on Tuesday that the man has now died from his injuries.

“The 63-year-old male pilot sadly passed away as a result of injuries sustained during the crash,” they said.

The ATSB has been informed of the crash and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
