Bryan Cranston, 67, clarifies comments about ‘retiring’ from acting

Bryan Cranston clarifies comments he made about his approaching retirement.

The 67-year-old actor who said he planned to retire, for a period of six months, in a GK article sets the record right after the focus on the word “retire” went viral.

In a social media post featuring the Emmy winner and his wife, Robin Dearden, in a photo carousel on the red carpet, Bryan explained his plans.

Hi everyone, I hope this message finds you well. News came out that wasn’t entirely clear…not even to me. So I wanted to set things right,” he wrote.

“I’m not retiring,” said the Malcolm In The Middle star.

Instead, the Asteroid City actor said, “What I’m going to do is hit the pause button for a year after I hit my 70th birthday in 2026. Holy crap – 70!’

“I’m not even sure what ‘pausing’ means exactly, but right now,” he admitted. “I think it means that by taking a year off, it brings out several things;”

“First, it will allow me to spend time with Robin (my beautiful wife of 34 years now) in a way I haven’t been able to do in the last 25 years… not as a wife of a celebrity, but as a loving wife. married couple are going — well, let’s face it — into our final years, with new hopes and goals and experiences.”

Bryan gave the second reason that he could “reset” his career.

“I feel like I’m running out of fresh ideas on how to play characters that are being offered to me. So exploring a more expansive life experience will give me the chance to replenish my soul and prepare for any role in a more authentic way.”

The Tony winner has lofty ideas about what he’s going to do in his spare time to bring about the ‘reset’.

“I will disconnect from social media, get out of the hamster wheel of corporate life, and dive into the classic novels I always promised myself I would read, but haven’t.”

He then said he still had some “unfinished business” to deal with.

Pause: Bryan said he’ll “hit the pause button” when he’s acting. “It will allow me to spend time with Robin (my beautiful wife who I’ve been married to for 34 years now) in a way I haven’t been able to do for the last 25 years…as a loving married couple.. with new hopes and goals and experiences’

The actor’s IMDB page lists three upcoming projects; the spy thriller Argylle, starring Dua Lipa and Henry Cavill, the drama Everything’s Going to Be Great, starring Allison Janney, and the comedy Jackpot, starring Jennifer Garner and Mila Kunis.

The accomplished lead won a Tony for his 2014 performance as former US President Lyndon B Johnson in All They Way, and he’s looking to return to the stage in the future.

“I’m focusing on my return to Broadway – but this time in a new light…more on that later,” he teased.
