Brush up on your insulting sword fighting skills, someone’s making an unofficial Monkey Island game

A new, unofficial entry in the Monkey Island saga is currently in development by indie studio BeanAdventureAgency. Designed as a love letter to the classic point-and-click franchise, Monkey Island’s drink is available as a free early access download and reflects the atmosphere and humor of the previous adventure titles.

The most recent official series entry, 2022 Return to Monkey Islandhad all the necessary ingredients for a worthy sequel to the point-and-click franchise, including the original voice cast reprising their roles, and hilarious writing courtesy of Dave Grossman and Ron Gilbert. However, I found the new scrapbook style to be somewhat divisive. Personally, I preferred the lush, hand-drawn aesthetic The Curse of Monkey Islandwhich clearly inspired the artists responsible for it Drink.

Monkey Island’s drink is still in the works, with no voice acting and some rough animation, but the artists and developers have nailed the atmosphere. The game uses a radial menu system, similar to what we saw in The Curse of Monkey Islandand while only a small portion of the game is currently playable, it’s packed with appearances from classic characters like Wally and Kate Capsize.

While the developers at BeanAdventureAgency have stated that Monkey Island’s drink is being created purely as a non-profit tribute, they are currently trying to fund their own original adventure title, The Adventures of Tango Riovia Kickstarter for those who want to support their work.
