‘Don’t use my name to attack Cristiano!’: Bruno Fernandes slams claims he was throwing shade at Ronaldo by saying Man United were finally ‘playing as a team’ after their derby win over Man City

  • Bruno Fernandes scored Manchester United’s first goal in a 2-1 win over City
  • Victory moves all ten Hag’s to within one point of their local league rivals
  • Fernandes slammed claims he criticized Cristiano Ronaldo after the match
  • The midfielder felt his comments about United being ‘a team’ had been misrepresented.

Bruno Fernandes has posted a tirade on social media after feeling his comments about Manchester United’s success this season were misconstrued as an attack on former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo.

Fernandes has been widely quoted as telling BT Sport after the Red Devils’ 2-1 derby win: ‘[We] Before we were individuals, now we are a team. You can see a proper team working for each other.

This was seen by many as a hint at Ronaldo, who controversially left United last year, but the midfielder has strongly denied this in a tirade on Instagram.

‘I know it’s hard to see Manchester United do well, [but I] I have nothing that [say] about us in the news apart from the good stuff,’ he said in a story published Saturday.

There have been rumors of a rift between the Portugal teammates before, when they appeared to offer icy greetings to each other shortly after Ronaldo’s explosive interview that led to his departure from Old Trafford.

Fernandes continued: ‘Don’t use my name to attack Cristiano. Cristiano was part of our team for half the season and as I’ve said in many interviews, everyone from Liverpool is being amazing and acting like a proper team and you can see the results. We continue!’

United beat Liverpool in the third game of this season after an awful start, and have since lost just twice in 15 games on their way to third in the table and whispers of a title challenge.

Saturday’s win over Man City was among the best yet as Fernandes scored Hag’s ten-man equalizer in controversial fashion as many felt Marcus Rashford interfered with play from an offside position on the preparation.

The England striker further frustrated the Cityzens fans when he scored a winner four minutes later to take his season tally to 16.

United find themselves just one point behind their local rivals after the result, and just six behind Arsenal before tomorrow’s north London derby.

Fernandes and company will be in action when they travel to Crystal Palace in 12th place on Wednesday.
