Peter Schmeichel claims Bruno Fernandes was ‘stupid’ after dragging Alejandro Balde to give Barcelona a penalty against Manchester United in Europa League playoff tie
Former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel has criticized Bruno Fernandes for a stupid decision after the midfielder gifted Barcelona a penalty in a Europa League tie.
Fernandes was judged for having removed Alejandro Balde in the penalty area by the referee.
Robert Lewandowski has just converted the penalty with his shot pushed to the post by David de Gea, before bouncing off the net.
Schmeichel, speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, lamented Fernandes’ decision-making in a great game.
“It looks like a penalty,” Schmeichel said. ‘It’s stupid to bring down a man inside the penalty area in a situation where Alejandro Balde is deviating from the goal.
