A man has been charged with the alleged murder of his 65-year-old partner in the Australian capital.

The 70-year-old man is accused of stabbing the woman to death at her Kinloch Circuit home in Bruce, Canberra, at 5.40pm on Monday.

He has been under police guard in Canberra Hospital since her body was discovered. During the altercation, the man suffered cuts to his wrists.

The man appeared before the ACT Magistrates Court on Friday afternoon via audiovisual link from his hospital bed.

Police have made a major breakthrough in the gruesome case of an elderly woman murdered in a home invasion almost a quarter of a century ago.

When authorities arrived at the home Monday, they were unable to revive the woman, who died at the scene from her injuries.

Acting Chief Inspector Mark Steel said the couple’s daughter reported the murder to police after discovering the body in the kitchen.

No one else was injured in the altercation.

Acting Supt Steel could not reveal the nature of their relationship but expressed sympathy for their daughter.

“It is clear that the family member suffered significant trauma upon seeing the deceased family member at the scene,” Supt Steel said. told the Canberra Times.

The man was formally arrested on Friday and has yet to enter a plea.
