They couldn’t, could they? Browns ‘will consider’ trading for Jimmy Garoppolo if Deshaun Watson’s suspension is extended beyond six games

  • Deshaun Watson will presently serve a six-game ban following investigations into sexual harassment and assault allegations
  • However, that could increase after NFL appealed independent recommendation
  • In the instance of an extended punishment, Cleveland may look to trade for San Francisco backup Jimmy Garoppolo, according to reports

The Cleveland Browns would consider trading for Jimmy Garoppolo if Deshaun Watson’s suspension is extended beyond its initial six games, according to reports.

Insider Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reports the Browns have a plan outside their current backup Jacoby Brissett, and it involves bringing the San Francisco 49ers backup to the Browns.

Last week, the NFL took umbrage with the recommendation handed down by independent disciplinary officer Sue L. Robinson, after Watson was investigated for the alleged sexual assault of two dozen women.

Jimmy Garoppolo has been given permission by the 49ers to seek a trade with other teams

Numerous reports suggest the league are looking for an extended suspension. If that were the case, Brissett would assume the starter position in Cleveland.

The former Patriot, Colt and Dolphin was signed one week to the day after Watson’s trade from Houston to the Dawg Pound.

Garoppolo, though, would be an immediate upgrade on Brissett, despite his current standing in the market.

Cleveland could be without Deshaun Watson far beyond the current six-game suspension

The 30-year-old led the 49ers to a Super Bowl in 2019 and an NFC Championship Game last season.

The former Belichick disciple is healed following offseason shoulder surgery and recently resumed full practice.

Though injuries have been a concern, with Garoppolo starting just 46 of a possible 81 games since arriving in San Francisco.

Cleveland isn’t without options — they also have former 10th overall pick Josh Rosen and ex-Steelers quarterback Joshua Dobbs on its roster.

Jacoby Brissett had a 2-3 record in Miami last season, throwing five touchdowns & four picks
