‘We want volunteers, not hostages’: Browns star Myles Garrett takes aim at teammate Jadeveon Clowney after he was sent home from practice for publicly criticizing the organization, claiming ‘95%’ don’t will be back next season
Browns pass rusher Myles Garrett responded to Jadeveon Clowney’s complaints about the organization, saying the team doesn’t want “hostages” after Clowney indicated a potential offseason exit.
speaking to cleveland.com In a story published Thursday, the three-time Pro Bowler expressed his dissatisfaction with the way he’s been used this season, as he believes he was sometimes shifted to more difficult assignments with Garrett able to feast on a lineman. weaker.
“Everyone is trying to get somebody into the Hall of Fame when all that matters is winning,” he said in the interview.
Myles Garrett disagreed with Jadeveon Clowney’s assessment of the organization
‘Everyone came here for a reason, and we can all make plays. I know who I am.’
‘I don’t even think [Garrett] notices,’ he said about the position switches.
I’m not trying to say it’s him. I try to get along with everyone I play with. He and I don’t have a problem. It’s not his fault. It’s just BS, and I don’t have time for it.’
Garrett and Clowney have had very different seasons individually, as the former’s 15 sacks have earned him another Pro Bowl nod, while Clowney (in 12 games) has just two to his name.
Clowney had just two sacks this season and missed four games with injury for Cleveland.
And Garrett disagreed with Clowney’s belief that his star teammate received any kind of preferential treatment.
“I think everyone’s concern is winning games and I don’t agree with looking at it that way. The guys in our room and really the guys in our organization, our only focus this season has been to win,” he said Friday.
We only want volunteers, not hostages.
Garrett noted that Clowney’s complaints regarding matchups were a “little bit muddled” when told by a reporter that he had faced the most double teams in the league.
Both players were first overall draft picks (Clowney from the Texans), and Clowney called the pair the “best rushing duo in the NFL” last season as he recorded nine more signature sacks.
Now it seems likely that partnership will end as Clowney was sent home after practice Friday.
“Ninety-five percent sure I won’t be back,” Clowney said. But there’s still that five percent left. You never know what can happen.
“I feel like I need to be around someone who believes in me and my ability. [It can’t] I only know myself believing in myself. I believe in myself more than anyone.
